Blueberries have fine, shallow roots that demand an exceptionally airy, free-draining and low-salt root zone. Chip-rich cocopeat blends in pots or open-top bags give blueberries the oxygen and drainage they need.
What blueberries need from the root zone
Blueberry roots are sensitive to salts and waterlogging. They perform best in a very open, chip-rich substrate that drains freely while holding gentle moisture.
- Very high air-filled porosity
- Low, stable EC
- Free drainage to protect fine roots
Recommended cocopeat mix
A 50/50 or chip-rich (≈30/70) blend in pots or open-top bags suits blueberries; we buffer and wash to a low EC to protect the root system.
Irrigation note
Irrigate frequently in small amounts and keep generous run-off; manage feed pH for blueberry-appropriate nutrition.
