FARMERSORIGIN — HUMAN RIGHTS & ENVIRONMENTAL DUE DILIGENCE STATEMENT
1. Purpose and Scope
This statement explains how FarmersOrigin works to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for adverse impacts on human rights and the environment across our own operations and our value chain. Our approach is informed by the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (Directive (EU) 2024/1760, the "CSDDD"), the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We apply this commitment across every market we serve, including customers in the European Union.
2. Our Business
FarmersOrigin produces and supplies performance-engineered coco coir growing media — including grow bags, blocks, coco peat and custom blends — to professional growers worldwide. Our raw coir originates primarily from Sri Lanka and India, where the coconut husk is collected, washed, buffered and processed before export.
3. Our Value Chain
Our value chain spans coconut husk collection, washing and buffering, processing and packaging at production facilities, and international freight to growers. We work with a defined group of production partners and rely on them, and their own suppliers, to uphold the standards described here.
4. Our Due Diligence Approach
In line with the CSDDD and the OECD due diligence framework, we work to:
- Embed responsibility: integrate due diligence into our policies, sourcing decisions and supplier relationships, with management oversight.
- Identify and assess: map our value chain and assess actual and potential adverse impacts on people and the environment.
- Prevent and mitigate: take appropriate measures to prevent, or where prevention is not possible, adequately mitigate the impacts we identify.
- Bring to an end: act to end actual adverse impacts and minimise their extent, including through corrective action plans with suppliers.
- Monitor and communicate: track the effectiveness of our measures and report publicly on how we address impacts, including through this statement.
- Remediate: provide for, or cooperate in, legitimate remediation where we have caused or contributed to harm.
5. Salient Risks
Based on the nature of coir production and agricultural value chains, we consider the following to be our most salient risks:
- Working conditions: occupational health and safety in coir processing and handling.
- Wages and hours: fair wages meeting at least the legal minimum, and working hours within legal limits.
- Freedom of association: the right of workers to organise and bargain collectively.
- Child and forced labour: the inherent risk of child, forced or bonded labour in agricultural value chains.
- Environment: responsible water use, waste handling and emissions during processing.
6. Measures and Results
We address these risks through our Supplier Code of Conduct, our Supply Chain Due Diligence Policy, contractual expectations, supplier assessments, corrective-action follow-up and ongoing dialogue with our partners. We are formalising our assessment and audit programme and will expand its coverage as the CSDDD obligations are phased in. Where we identify shortcomings, our preference is to work with suppliers on improvement before considering disengagement.
7. Complaints and Information Requests
We welcome information and concerns about actual or potential adverse impacts connected to our operations or value chain. Affected persons, workers, their representatives and other stakeholders may submit a complaint or request information through our Contact page. We will acknowledge submissions, treat them confidentially where appropriate, respond within a reasonable time, and we do not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
8. Governance and Review
This statement is approved by FarmersOrigin management. We review it at least once a year, and update it as our due diligence work matures and as the CSDDD and related requirements take effect.
